AgriPV - An Introduction

In this first ISES organized webinar in cooperation with the GSC on the topic of AgriPV - also known as Agri-Photovoltaic - ISES and the GSC are pleased to welcome a panel of speakers from all around the globe introducing their work on AgriPV and sharing their insights into trends and new developments.

During this webinar, we will learn about different AgriPV test-sites from across the globe and their results, we will be introduced to a national AgriPV Guideline, meet an AgriPV site that combines agriculture, energy generation, community education and art and more. Additionally,  we will hear how the IRENA Coalition for Action Working Group on "Renewables for Agriculture” approaches the topic and will be introduced to an industry perspective on AgriPV.

Speakers

Byron Kominek

Byron Kominek is an agrivoltaics consultant, former U.S. Diplomat, natural resources management expert as well as head of "Jacks Solar Garden", his family's farm in Boulder County, Colorado which hosts the largest commercially active agrivoltaics system in the USA researching a variety of crops, monitoring vegetation, and incorporating community members into the farms work.

Byron's background is in international development with around 15 years of experience handling projects related to natural resource management overseas. At Jack's Solar Garden, Byron has taken this experience and applied it to his family's land to create a national model for what agrivoltaics can be with the hopes of inspiring others to take AgriPV even further.

Subrahmanyam Pulipaka

Subrahmanyam Pulipaka is the youngest Chief Executive Officer of the National Solar Energy
Federation of India. The National Solar Energy Federation of India (NSEFI) is an umbrella
organisation representing solar energy companies in India that are active along the whole
photovoltaic value chain: project developers, manufacturers, engineering companies,
financing institutions and other stakeholders.

He also is Head of the IRENA Renewables in Agriculture Working Group and will share the IRENA Coalition of Actions latest Joint Statement on Advancing Renewables in
Agriculture.

Dave Renné - Moderator

David Renné served as President of the International Solar Energy Society from 2010 - 2019 and now holds the position of ISES Immediate Past President on the ISES Executive Committee. From 1991 until his retirement in 2012, Dave managed the solar resource assessment activities at the U.S. National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).  In 2012 he formed the consultancy Dave Renne Renewables. He is dedicated to the concept of urgently achieving 100% renewable energy to meet all of our end use energy requirements as the best solution to the climate crisis.

Dave will moderate this webinar and welcome the speakers and audience on behalf of ISES as well as on behalf of the Globa Solar Councils Technical Committee.

Petra Högy

Petra Högy is Associate Professor at the Institute of Landscape and Plant Ecology of the University of Hohenheim, Germany. From 2008 to 2018 she was involved in the DFG Research Unit “Agricultural Landscapes under Global Climate Change - Processes and Feedbacks on a Regional Scale” (FOR 1695) and in the Integrated DFG Project “Structure and Functions of Agricultural Landscapes under Global Climate Change - Processes and Projections on a Regional Scale” (PAK 346). As project leader of APV-Resola (BMBF-funded), she was involved in the establishment of the first German Agrophotovoltaic Research Plant and responsible for the experimental design of the related field experiments in terms of agriculture, biodiversity, environment and microclimate. Her main topics are experimental research on the effects of climate change on agroecosystems, the mechanistic understanding of wheat growth, yield formation and yield quality, including crop physiology, ecophysiology as well as proteomics and metabolomics. She provides experimental data for model improvement and has a strong interest in innovations in resource-efficient land use and bioeconomy,

Petra will present on: Agrivoltaics: Chance to tackle climate change in agriculture?

Moritz Gajewski

Moritz currently studies Energy Sciences and Environmental Management at the University of Applied Science Flensburg, Germany and is part of the AgriPVv team at Fraunhofer ISE.

Jordan Macknick

Jordan Macknick is the Lead Energy-Water-Land Analyst for NREL. His primary work addresses the environmental impacts of energy technologies, while seeking opportunities for energy and ecological synergies. In his energy-water-land leadership capacity, Macknick analyzes implications of different energy pathways in the context of water and land resources, evaluates opportunities to improve the energy management of water infrastructure, and explores innovative approaches to co-locating solar and agricultural activities. He is the Principal Investigator of the InSPIRE project, which is researching Agrivoltaics at 25 field sites across the United States.

Maximilian Tegtmeyer

Maximilian Tegtmeyer is Prodcut Manager for Agri-PV at Baywa r.e. a leading global renewable energy developer, service supplier, wholesaler and energy solutions provider. With his background in regional planning and international studies with a focus on land use conflicts, water governance, and renewable energies Max supports the market entry of AgriPV both on a national as well as international level, conducts spatial analyses and conducts product development at Baywa r.e.

During the webinar, Max will introduce the company's Agri-PV sites both across Europe and internationally.
