Record attendance at ISES + GSC webinar
On May 28, ISES in cooperation with the Global Solar Council (GSC) held a successful webinar on the topic of floating solar photovoltaics.
Floating solar photovoltaic (FPV) is an emerging concept that makes use of a portion of surface water bodies for siting grid-tied solar energy systems. As PV system prices fall and reliability improves, there is increased pressure to find suitable sites for grid-tied centralized systems, especially in areas where land use is a critical restraint, and FPV offers an attractive alternative to land-based systems.
The webinar provided an overview by FPV experts of recent work that has been done to assess global and regional FPV potentials, explained the testing of system concepts and presented examples of successful projects already in place.
The webinar was opened by ISES Immediate Past President, Dave Renné, moderated by Prof. Eicke Weber, who introduced the speakers: Zuzana Dobrotkova (ESMAP/World Bank), Dr Thomas Reindl (SERIS/Singapore), Dr Ki-hae Yang (SEGI/Korea) and Sika Gadzanku (US-NREL).
ISES has been conducting monthly webinars on a variety of technical topics since 2012, and this one had by far the largest participation of any previous webinars. Over 1,000 people registered for the webinar and more than 500 attendees from 79 countries around the world joined the live webinar!
