Workshops - IEA SHC Task 54: Price Reduction of Solar Thermal Systems
As part of the EuroSun 2018, many exciting workshops will be held all throughout the week. In this newsletter we would like to introduce the IEA SHC Task 54:
On Thursday, the 13th of September, this workshop will present the results of IEA SHC's task 54 and will give information on the solar thermal value chain and highlight parts with the highest cost reduction potential. Task 54 experts explain economic and technological mechanisms that could change the price structure of current solar thermal systems decisively by help of practical examples. Speakers are: Dr. Michael Köhl (Fraunhofer ISE), Yoann Louvet (Kassel University), Dr. Federico Giovannetti (ISFH), Dr. Daniel Mugnier (TECSOL) and Dr. Stephan Fischer (ITW).
This workshop is free and open to attend for all registered EuroSun participants.

Technical Tours
As part of the conference program, EuroSun 2018 is offering two technical tours as well as a historic city tour of beautiful Rapperswil. Information about the tours can be found online - all tours will take place on Thursday, the 13th of September starting from 2pm.
1) EMPA Labs - Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology
With this tour, the EMAP R&D laboratories such as NEST (Next Evolution in Sustainable Building Technologies) and MOVE (the future mobility demonstrator) can be visited.
This tour will cost CHF 20 and pre-registration online through the conference registration is necessary as places are limited.
2) HSR Labs - „walk-in“
With this tour, conference participants can visit various labs of SPF, the Institute for Solar Technology as well as the Power-to-Methane Plant of IET, the Institute for Energy Technology on the HSR campus. The labs open at 2pm and will close at 5pm - everybody is invited to come and the tours are free of charge!
Pre-registration for these tours will take place during the conference registration on Monday.
3) Historic City Tour
A guided walking tour through the picturesque old town of Rapperswil with an afternoon exploring the city and learning about it's history can be booked by all conference participants - the tour starts at 2pm and will last about two hours. Costs for the tour are 10 Francs and registration is needed online through the conference registration as places are limited.
Young ISES meetings at EuroSun 2018
Young ISES, the social and professional network for young members of the International Solar Energy Society will be having two events for Students, PhD students and young professionals interested in ISES:
Monday, 10th of September: A Young ISES welcome and meet and greet will be held at the conference welcome reception. Meet some of the ISES staff, learn more about our work, Young ISES and meet and connect with your fellow solar peers.
Tuesday, 11th of September: On Tuesday, we invite all students and young professionals to join the "Young ISES get-together" starting at 18:30. The informal event will take place at the Restaurant Rossini where participants can enjoy a drink and a pizza or pasta for a special rate of CHF 20.
With these events we hope to provide you with an opportunity to get to know your fellow solar and renewable energy peers, network and enjoy a break from the conference!
Registration for this get-together has to be made at the registration desk by Tuesday, 11 September, 12:30 hrs. All are welcome to attend teh Meet & Greet on Monday during the Welcome Reception.
Special conference transport ticket
EuroSun 2018 and the regional transport agency SBB are happy to provide all conference participants with a special travel ticket! This ticket will cost 49 CHF and covers the whole area of the ZVV (see the ZVV map here) and can be used for travelling by bus, train and even by boat from Zürich to Rapperswil during 9-14 of September, e.g. from Zürich airport and/or from your hotel to the conference venue (Rapperswil) and back. This is a great offer as a one way ticket from Zürich/Zürich Airport is CHF 17.20 and a one day Zürich pass is CHF 34.40.

Best Poster Awards
EuroSun 2018 program will include two poster sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday. We are pleased to announce that a total of three awards will be presented to the Best Posters from the EuroSun 2018. The best posters will be selected by representatives of EuroSun, SIGES and SAC Scientific Committee and will be presented during the closing session on Thursday. More information on this will follow soon!
