ISES Board Members meet in Freiburg, Germany

The International Solar Energy Society (ISES) Board of Directors gathered in Freiburg, Germany on 09 -10 March for the annual Board Meeting to reflect on the Society’s work in 2017 and focus the Society’s continued efforts for 2018. The meeting took place at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems.

This marked the first official meeting of the new ISES Board of Directors, starting a new two-year term in January 2018.

For two days the Board of Directors and headquarters staff discussed, brainstormed, and shared ideas on the past year, as well as the year to come. For 2018, ISES will continue to focus on sharing the knowledge of its broad-reaching, highly skilled membership base with governments and the general public through events, online presence, and educational webinars.

A new Treasurer has been appointed to the Executive Committee this year. Geoff Stapleton (Australia) takes over the position from Torben Esbenson (Denmark). The Society thanks Mr. Esbenson for his dedication and excellent work committed to the position of Treasurer and welcomes Mr. Stapleton to continue keeping a close eye on the financial health of the Society. ISES, which is a not-for-profit organization, hopes to secure donations and increase membership numbers to allow the Society to continue to maintain financial health and to develop and grow in the coming years.

Highlights of planned activities for the next two years include the publication of solar energy mythbusters, new opinion articles and the opening up of the Members newsletter to all contacts. This will enable Members news to reach a much wider audience and create stronger connections within the ISES Membership, partners and larger network. 

Future ISES conferences were also discussed in detail, such as the upcoming EuroSun 2018 conference in Switzerland this September and the Solar World Congress 2019 in Santiago, Chile. The Board of Directors also held important discussions surrounding a special 50th ISES anniversary event in 2020 to mark 50 years of successfull conferences. The years ahead are sure to be exciting and dynamic for ISES, working with dedication towards advancing the 100% renewable energy transformation.
