ISES activities at COP29

ISES is happy to once again join the very important COP29 negotiations this year taking place in Baku Azerbaijan at the end of November. On site, ISES will be represented by our Board members Chiel Boonstra, Christine Lins and Gurleen Kaur. 

From 18 - 21 November, the ISES team is once again happy to share an exhibition booth with Solar Cookers International to advocate for our shared vision of renewable energy deployment around the world. During COP29 ISES will also take part in several events on site:

Dr. Gurleen Kaur, Young ISES representative will engage in the “Call to Action to Youth as Ambassadors of Change” on 18 November. The interactive session empowers young experts to drive climate action, with a focus on solar energy adoption. Participants will engage with experts, share experiences, and explore strategies for impactful change. The session highlights youth's role in shaping policy, fostering grassroots initiatives, and building a sustainable, solar-powered future.

ISES Treasurer Chiel Boonstra and board member Prof. Andreas Häberle (online) will join the penal discussion on "Unlocking the Power of the Sun: Scaling Solar Thermal Heating and Cooling for Energy Transition" on 20 November. This session will give a comprehensive overview of the solar thermal heating and cooling section within the broader context of the global energy transition. It will introduce the ISA`s programme 7, focusing on the Solarization of Heating and Cooling Systems and examines the challenges and opportunities within this sector. It will further discuss an adequate framework development concept for ISA`s Heating and Cooling Programme.

On 21 November, ISES Board Members Christine Lins and Dr. Gurleen Kaur will represent ISES in the session on “Women in Solar Energy”. This session will highlight the critical role of women in the global energy transition by showcasing successful initiatives and best practices that promote gender equity in energy. It will further engage in identifying barriers to women's participation in the energy sector and propose actionable solutions and foster partnerships and collaboration to support women in energy leadership roles.
