Global 100% Renewable Energy: Rian van Staden appointed as new Platform Coordinator
The Executive Committee of the Global 100% Renewable Energy platform has recently appointed a new Platform Coordinator to help implement a work programme with a strong focus on further expanding the global movement towards a fully renewable energy-based economy.
“We are pleased to announce that we have appointed Rian van Staden as the new Platform Coordinator for Global 100% RE” said Stefan Gsaenger, Executive Committee member and Secretary General of the World Wind Energy Association (WWEA). “His combined experience in both renewable energy and civil society will help us move the platform forward.”
Rian van Staden is a former Executive Director of the International Solar Energy Society and has served as consultant to the renewable energy sector for more than 20 years with clients on local, national and international level, covering everything from investment and financing, policy, technology, advocacy and development.
“The time has come for everybody, from individuals and companies to local governments and entire countries, to clearly set out their commitment to achieving 100% renewable energy use, and to develop a roadmap to let them achieve it in a realistic but urgent timeframe.” van Staden stated. “I hope that helping coordinate and grow this cooperative platform will help us all achieve our energy end-goal – 100% RE – faster than business as usual.”
Global 100% RE is the first global initiative that advocates 100% renewable energy. This unique platform unites for this common goal quite diverse global networks from civil society, environmental organisations, private sector, local governments and science and builds on projects that are already taking place on national, regional and local levels. The platform aims at steering the global discourse on renewable energy towards 100% RE as the new normal.
The Global 100% Renewable Energy platform office is based at the UN Campus in Bonn, Germany.
